Scouting's Proven Impact
As a parent, you want programs that truly make a difference for your child. At Scouting, we don't just hope for positive outcomes; we prove them. We partner with leading colleges and research organizations to rigorously study Scouting's impact on youth development.
This isn't about what we think we do; it's about what the data shows. Our ongoing research helps us ensure we're delivering a program that genuinely builds character, fosters leadership, and prepares your child for success.
Lions
Kindergarten
A Lion is the name for the youngest members of the Cub Scouts program, specifically children in kindergarten or those who are 5 years old and in the year before first grade. They participate in the Lion Cub program alongside their adult partners, engaging in activities that introduce them to the world of Scouting.
Tigers
First Grade
A Tiger in Cub Scouts is a rank earned by first-grade (or age 7) boys and their adult partners. It's the first official rank after the Lion rank (for kindergarteners). Tiger Cubs work with their adult partners to complete required and elective adventures, learning through fun, hands-on activities.
Wolves
2nd Grade
In Cub Scouts, "Wolf" refers to a rank earned by Cub Scouts who have finished first grade or are eight years old. To achieve the Wolf rank, a Cub Scout must complete six required Adventures and two elective Adventures. These Adventures are a series of age-appropriate activities designed to help them learn new skills and have fun while developing character, citizenship, and fitness.
Bears
3rd Grade
In Cub Scouting, a Bear is a rank earned by Cub Scouts who have completed the second grade or are 9 years old. To earn the Bear badge, a Cub Scout must complete six required adventures and one elective adventure. These adventures involve a variety of activities, both indoors and outdoors, and cover topics like outdoor skills, safety, and community involvement.
Webelos
4th Grade
In Cub Scouts, Webelos is a rank for fourth-grade Cub Scouts, and also the name of the program for these Scouts. The term "Webelos" is an acronym for "WE'll BE LOyal Scouts". Webelos Scouts are preparing to transition to Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts). They focus on earning the Webelos badge and begin to participate in more group-oriented activities, similar to those in Scouts BSA.
Arrow of Light
5th Grade
The Arrow of Light award is the highest rank in Cub Scouting. It signifies the completion of the Webelos program and prepares Cub Scouts to transition into Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts). It's a culmination of their Cub Scout journey and the only Cub Scout badge that can be worn on the Boy Scout uniform.
